Prevention & Sexual Health

Understanding Prevention:

What is prevention?

Prevention is to keep something from happening. To stop the occurrence of any obstacle.

Levels of Health Prevention:

  • Primary Prevention- the first level of health care, concerned with preventing the onset of a disease, the goal is to reduce the incidence of diseases (www.med.uottawa.ca).
  • Secondary Prevention- the second level, is detecting a disease at the earliest stages before it progresses ("").
  • Tertiary Prevention- the third phase, interventions designed to arrest the progress of an established disease and to control its negative consequence  ("").

Why is prevention important for sexual health?

Prevention is important when it comes to sexual health because it ensures healthy sexual habits. This relates to HIV/AIDs, STDs/STIs, and HPV. Knowing what prevention is and knowing how to apply it to your health will decrease your chances of any sexually transmitted infections or diseases. Moving forward, relating prevention and sexual health is important because many people are not educated on prevention steps. Prevention starts with educating oneself on safe sex practices, communicating concerns to your partner, and know the different types of STDs/STIS.

  1. I like how you mentioned to avoid drugs and alcohol because it increases your desire to pursue sexual encounters. I feel this is very true and people make bad choices and more than likely contract std's more easily this way. An interesting thing to look into next I think would be the different types of STD's.

  2. Great post Astoria. I like how you used the 3 types of preventions levels their are. People should be tested often. I get tested about every 6 months even though I have the same partner I just like to make sure I am okay, just in case he could be stepping out and participating in sexual intercourse that gives him something. I feel everyone should always look for out for their best interest when it comes to preveting an STD

  5. When you think of prevention, you only think of one level. I love that you included the primary, secondary, and tertiary levels of prevention. Depending on where you are at, there are different things that you need to do and that is important for people to know what they are. This post was very informative, good job!

  7. Astoria,

I like that you listed the levels of prevention. Most people do not know that there are different levels and I am one of those people! This is good to know. It is also great to know prevention by gender. Thank you for your post!

  8. Natural herbs have treated so many illnesses that drugs and injections can't treat. I've seen the great importance of natural herbs and the wonderful work they have done in people's lives. I read people's testimonies online on how they were treated of Herpes, HPV HIV/AIDS & STDs, Diabetics , Gonorrhea, Hepatitis, Stomach infections, Chronic pains. etc. by natural herbal medicine, so I decided to contact the doctor because I know nature has the power to heal anything. I was diagnosed with Herpes for the past years but Dr Chike treated me with his natural herbs and I referred my aunt and her husband to him immediately because they were both suffering from herpes but to God be the glory, they were treated too believe it or not, but I am a living testimony. There is no harm trying powerful natural herbs. Contact Dr on Whats-App number . +233502715551. or you can also contact through his Facebook Page @ Dr Chike Herbal Remedy.
